    Introducing Ka’abah

    By admin | December 11, 2008

Every year, millions of people are gathered in Mecca. They perform al Hajj pilgrimage –a Muslim obligation commanded by Allah. Among many routine activities during the pilgrimage, Thawaf is the most famous and well-known activity. Thawaf is an activity where the pilgrims walk around the Ka’abah. Ka’abah is the small cubicle shrine in the Great Mosque of Mecca which contains the Hajjar Aswad –a famous black Stone of Mecca. Ka’abah also represents the direction (kiblah) to which Muslims turn in praying. Ka’abah is actually just an ordinary building. It is not a worshiped building or god. Turn in praying to Ka’abah doesn’t mean to pray to Ka’abah itself.

History of Ka’abah began before the human being was created by Allah and before they descend to earth. Angels was commanded by Allah to descend to earth and found Ka’abah. Then they are commanded to do Thawaf around the Ka’abah.

Then, it came the period of Adam creation. He then was degraded to earth –in a region which now is India. Hereinafter he walked to look for his wife –Eve. Around this house of Allah, he met Eve and later lived his family there. Allah’s House (this Ka’abah) became place for religious service to Him during the time, since the period of Prophet Noah, Ibrahim, and also other prophets.

The ancient Arabs also did not pray to Ka’abah. They knew that Ka’abah is not a thing to be worshiped. Even the Quraish tribe, who are known as Pagans, did not worship the Ka’abah. Although that the ancient Quraish worshiped stone, rocks, wooden statue, they realized that Ka’abah is just an ordinary building who cannot be worshiped.

When Abrahah, Negus of Ethiopia, launched an attack to Ka’abah with his army, the Arabs did not fel a fear of losing Ka’abah for they believe that Ka’abah itself is not God –just a house which is honored by God. They believed that Ka’abah will be guarded by its owner –Allah. Even Abdul Muthalib, Prophet Muhammad’s grandfather, was busier to take care of his goats and camels at that time. He minimized his attention for he believed that Allah who will take care of Ka’abah.

So, the common Western scholar’s statement that Muslim worships the Ka’abah is clearly a mistake. That statement shows that they have superficial of knowledge regarding Islam. Their analysis which derives the statement shows that they just have little knowledge about Islam but speak as well as they has a broad knowledge of Islamic faith.
