By admin | December 28, 2008
The Persian calendar is the Hijriyya Calendar of Solar System (Hijriyya Calendar is calendar with sun’s calculations). Beside in Iran, the calendar is also used in Afghanistan and Tajikistan as a fellow family of Persian nations.
Persian calendar was created by King Cyrus in 530 years BC. It was made more accurate in the early of 12th century by a famous mathematician and astronomy who was also writer, Omar Khayyam (1048-1122 CE). New Year (Nawruz) always falls in early spring. Name of months are Farwardin, Ordibehest, Khordad, Tir, Mordad, Shahriwar, Mehr, Aban, Azar, Dey, Bahman, and Esfand. The first six months have 31 days and the next five months have 30 days. Last month, Esfand, has 29 days (in normal year) or 30 days (in leap year that every four years). The Prophet’s migration (622 CE) is determined as the Year One, but their calculation is still based on the solar calendar. New Year of 1st Farwardin Hijriyya Solar fell March 21, 2007.
Compared to other solar calendar, the Persian calendar, which is also called Almanak Jalali, is the most relevant to season. 1st Farwardin always falls on 21 March (early spring), 1st Tir always falls on June 22 (early summer), 1st Mehr always falls on 23rd September (early autumn), and 1st Dey always falls on December 22 (early winter).
